An investigation by the Victorian National Parks Association into new logging plans for Victoria’s western forests and woodlands reveals they would be ecologically damaging and take place in areas known to harbour more than 20 threatened native animals and 14 threatened native plants.
Our report, published in June 2017, analyses VicForests’ new Timber Utilisation plan, focusing on the impacts of proposed logging coupes on threatened species, endangered, vulnerable and depleted vegetation types and land tenure. It outlines how logging will target around 60 state forest areas, known to contain over 30 different threatened species and a significant proportion of endangered, vulnerable or depleted vegetation types.
We are calling on the Andrews Government to ensure no logging proceeds in western Victoria while the proposed logging plan is comprehensively reviewed, if it proceeds at all.
